If you've seen the Google AI Overview and scroll past it every time you see it, or you get annoyed at the fact that it can show you misinformation, you may be delighted to know that you can remove the AI Overview by just changing a couple of Chrome settings.

Here's how to remove it:

  1. Type chrome://settings into your search bar, then click Enter.
  2. Click Search engine, then Manage search engines and site search.
  3. Scroll down to Site search, then click Add.
  4. For Name, type Google Web Search, for Shortcut, type @web, and for URL with %s in place of query, type https://www.google.com/search?q=%s+-ai.
  5. In the list under Site search, you'll see Google Web Search. Click the three dots next to it, then click Make default.

Now, you won't have to deal with the AI overview.

How does it work?

This works by adding -ai to the end of your searches. -ai is a special flag Google programmed in that prevents the AI Overview from showing up.

Are there any issues?

It seems to break the calculator and sometimes give worse search results. Both can be fixed by removing the -ai from the search bar.

In conclusion, it's pretty easy to disable Google AI Overview in Google Chrome.

Anyways, I hope y'all have a great rest of your day!
